PALACE CRYSTALS
1995 - 2010
The Palace Crystals were the elite squad of the Carshalton Cheerleaders. In 1995 they were invited to represent Crystal Palace Football Club performing at all home matches. The Crystals performed at Selhurst for 15 years up to the end of the 2009/2010 season. Following new ownership at CPFC, the club requested an older dance team. For two months, the Crystals Spirit Dance Team served the role, formed from older Crystals and some of the Sapphires Cheer squad.
In October 2010 the football club decided they wanted a more provocative style of dance team. The Carshalton Cheerleaders are no longer represented at CPFC, but the support for Crystal Palace Football Club is still strong. In April 2011 the Crystals will be returning for a family day performance.
Come On You EAGLES!

Baltimore, Maryland 2008
As well as travelling to Baltimore to compete, the Palace Crystals were delighted to meet the NFL Baltimore Ravens. The (American football) Ravens are one of the top NFL teams in the nation. They are also unique in having collegiate-style co-ed cheerleaders. The Crystals were invited to the Ravens training grounds in Owings Mills. Their cheerleaders have recently had their try-outs and we were welcomed to their first pre-season practice.
The Crystals have often wished that male fans of CPFC would want to form a co-ed squad. If you are interested, please get in touch. The objective of the co-ed squad would be to develop higher flying tosses, and fabulous extended lifts! Can you take the challenge? We welcome any one from age 16+ who is willing to work-out on Thursday evenings. Get to the next season’s games for free! Cheer with one of the top trophy winning teams in the UK!

COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING
The competition season is in full swing and the Palace Crystals are getting ready. On Sunday, March 23rd, they will take part in the British Midlands Classic in Telford in Shropshire. Using that event as a warm-up, they will jet off to Baltimore on April 8th to compete in the American Allstar Challenge. The Crystals are excited and anxious in equal measure, knowing that every year, the competitions get more difficult. Even British regional events show 40 to 60% growth every year. The Crystals are keen to stay at the top of the British trophy winners.
Is cheerleading a sport? As the number of teams in this country increase, appreciation of the athleticism and abilities of cheerleaders grows. Training is long and difficult, cheer routines become more complex and the battle at competitions is close and hard fought. Still, cheerleaders are unique in their support of other cheer teams, knowing that we are together working for a greater appreciation of the activity we call a sport.
Want to know more? See http://www.carshaltoncheerleaders.org.ukfor the home team of the Palace Crystals. Or pop in to the Telford International Centre on Easter Sunday and give us some great Eagles support!
Did you see the cheerleaders on Challenge TV Bingo Lotto? Yes, that was the Carshalton Sapphires – the older sister team to the Crystals. There are ex-Crystals on this team, but it is open to all, even beginners. For opportunities to take part call Head Coach Jean on 020 8669-0380.
